MANILVA THIS WEEK.

WEDNESDAY 4th JANUARY 2012.

Well the weather is just getting nicer everyday, by the afternoon it is warm enough for Brenda to sit up on the roof terrace; in the evening it goes cool and at night it is cold but still in double figs. As I made the Braised Steak and Onions for dinner Brenda went for a walk with Cheta, when she came back she then made her famous Mash and also Cabbage with Alselgas. Mano and Anna called in at lunchtime to catch up with news and gossip and then went off to get a present for Fabio for ‘Three Kings ’on Friday. I also made some Pancake batter for our supper with Gillian, we are having Crepes with sugar and Lemon juice, Fresh Pineapple and Strawberries and Manilva Honey!
In the evening Gillian joined us for dinner; we had some small Tapas to start, local Chorizo and Ham with semi- Curado Cheese and Gillian brought a very nice bottle of ‘Campo Viejo’ which went very well with the Braised Steak, after the ‘House Crepes ’the ladies had some Brandy to finish off a nice evening; we have a guest comment book for our family and friends to leave their comments after coming to dinner and staying with us – thanks Gillian for your very kind comments ! The picture is below as we started our dinner. I then walked Gillian home at 1-0clock in the morning down to her house through the deserted floodlit streets of sleepy Manilva.!! The late film was a World War 2 submarine drama with Matthew McConaughey,Harvey Keitel and Jon Bon Jovi called ‘ U-571 ’ about capturing the ‘ Enigma ’code machine, total fiction as we were actually the ones that got it, not the Americans !

Cracker of the Day;

What did the fish say when it swam into a wall ? Dam !

THURSDAY 5th JANUARY 2012.

This morning we went down on the bus to do the shopping as tomorrow is a bank holiday here in Spain; when we got back we went for a walk with the dog down towards the Mirador at the bottom of the village, they have finished the repair work on the old Cinema very quickly, by Spanish standards, as you can see in the picture below, check out the blue sky ! I then called into the Council Chambers as it was a full meeting of the Council, it was listed on the Council Web-Page; it is broadcast live on Manilva TV and of course is open to the public, which in this case was me ! The report of the proceedings was on their blog when we got back, it translates so I am able to follow what has been said and passed ! The pictures are below of the meeting and our local councilors. We carried on and walked down to Mano and Ann’s house to say hello and whilst we were there my mobile phone went, it was ‘ Jazztel ’our new phone and internet provider that we have been trying to change to for over nine months, it looks like we have finally got there thanks to Mano’s help, which means a fifty percent saving on the bill ! The other good news at the moment is the pound is at its highest in a year against the Euro so the Pensions and Bank transfers are looking better !
We also bought while we were out ‘ Roscon De Reyes ’ which is a special cake that is served on the Three Kings Festival, it is made with a Sponge type pastry and is in the shape of a ring, it is filled with custard cream and decorated with Glaze Candied Fruits, I will take a picture for tomorrows blog when I will also publish the photos of tonight’s parade in Calle Mar.

Cracker of the Day;

When is a boat like a pile of snow ? When it’s adrift !
