On Wednesday’s stage when Cavendish won his team gave him the perfect eight men lead out and at the same time he also took over the Green jersey for the leading sprint points rider !
Olympic champion Samuel Sanchaz won the 12TH stage from Cugnaux to Luz Ardien over 211kms and six hours in the saddle! Frenchman Thomas Vockler sprang a shock when he retained the yellow jersey and the young Welshman Geraint Thomas led for while and was second over the feared Col Du Tourmalet before fading; defending champion Alberto Contador,now seventh overall,stuggled to an eighth place finish in the Pyrenees and now is four minutes behind Vockler. The three big climbs of the day went over,for the first time,Hourquette D’Ancizan,the Col Du Tourmalet,which was first climbed over 101 years ago ! Its 17kms up and 20kme down !! Finally it was up to the top of Luz Ardien Today the race takes them from Pau Lourdes
Newsflash; World champion Thor Hushovd won the 13th stage,the Norwegian overtook long time leader Jeremy Roy of France in the final two kms.Voeckler retained the Yellow jersey,the big climb of the day was the hors catagorie Col D'Aubisque. On Saturday it is the last day in the Pyrenees with three great peaks to overcom !
