As we got up on Thursday morning it was very close and overcast but as the day went on the sun came out and by the afternoon it was warm; we took things easy and just pottered about the house and caught up with the housework, meanwhile I was on the blog updating the start to the week! In the evening we walked down to the Wine Centre to check out the Wine Tasting; it was a full house with the tables layed out for sixty people for a professional tasting, the Master of Wine introduced and started the proceedings, The first two wines to taste and compare were Sherries, one from San Luca de Barrameda, a Manzanila and the other a Fino from Jerez. They are an acquired taste, the Fino just won. We then had a light Vino Blanco from Huelva which was crisp and dry followed by another light Rosado from the Ronda which had a good colour and was easy on the palate. All the wines during the evening were introduced by the representatives from the various wine Bodega’s and were described in length with an audio visual display; there then followed to Red wines, one from the Malaga,Grenada,Almeria triangle and another from Ronda, both were easy to taste and pleasant to drink. The next wine was a surprise, it was a Vino Naranja, pudding wine, again from the Huelva region, and it is matured in the Barrel for eight years with Orange Zest! It’s practically like Grand Marnier!! To finish we had a traditional Moscatel wine from Malaga which is also an acquired taste,the whole tasting was very impressive and next time we are hoping for some more Full Bodied and finer wines !
To end the evening they had layed on an excellent Buffet with the two stars being the Iberica Ham carver and surprisingly a large Roast York Ham, which was moist, juicy and very tasty, the first person to carve it had started at the wrong end so yours truly soon got hold of a carving knife and proceeded to show off !! The pictures below show the evening which took place in the foyer of the new Wine Centre. We ended off the evening up in Bar Rojas after a very enjoyable evening, the first of many we hope !
Thought for the Day;
Luck is what you have left over after you give 100 percent !
