MANILVA THE SISTERS VISIT.
TUESDAY/WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY
25th/26th/27th
SEPTEMBER 2012 .
Tuesday
turned out to be our last sunny day down here in Manilva as the tail of the
tropical storm ‘ Nadine ’is due to catch us later in the week; after getting
ourselves smartened up we set off to “ The Brasserie ” at Casares Golf Club for
our pre-lunch cocktails,it is our favorite spot for drinks when we are on the
way out. The pictures below show the Brasserie at its best as I was caught on
camera – not often ! We then headed up the valley past the luxurious Finca
Cortesin Golf and Country Club where we have been invited next Tuesday to a ‘
VIP ’ deVere group cocktail party ! Venta Garcia was looking at it’s best as we
were welcomed by Jesus, we had the prime table in the window as you can see in the
pictures below; The meal, as usual was excellent, Brenda had a Smoked Salmon
salad to start, Norah had the Chicken and Vegetable Broth, Jenny had a Pasta
salad and I had the ‘ House Chicken Croquettes ’which come with some crisp
chips ! Brenda for her main course had the Confit of Duck Leg,Norah had a baby
Sole, Jenny had the blade of Roast Lamb and I had the baby Suckling Pig with
Lyonnaise potatoes – To drink with the meal we had a bottle of the ‘ Pinot Noir
Rose Cava Brut ’ Crème Caramel’s to follow along with complimentary Brandies
ended another fine meal at the Venta ! It was siesta time when we returned to
the house an in the evening we just watched some TV and ‘ Snacked Out ’
Overnight
the rain storms hit us, our first real rain in over a year ! We slowed down
going out so I decided to have a cooked breakfast,Eggs,Smoked Back English
Bacon, English Pork Sausages, Button Mushrooms, and Sauté Potatoes along with
plenty of buttered toast and tea set us up for the day ahead ! We then set off,
in the afternoon, in the hire car for a drive along the coast,Estepona market
had been rained off so we showed the sister’s the famous ‘Tikitano ’ beach
restaurant, went up to the ‘Gastronomic Capital of the Costa del Sol ’
Benahavis for a quick tour ready for another day, stopped at ‘ Tricky Ricky’s
for tea and then went though Puerto Banus onto the ‘ Golden Mile ’ of
Marbella. The next port of call was the shopping mall ‘ La Cancelda ’
for mainly
window shopping ! We then picked Gillian up from the bus station in Marbella after her flight back from the UK ,she had had an horrific trip going
over with Friends in their car, Santander and Bilbao ferries on strike, a dash across France to Calais and severe storms crossing the English Channel !! After dropping her off up in the
village we shot down to ‘ Marlow’s for a early fish supper – Haddock, Chips and
Mushy Peas before the girls packed when we got back to the house for an early
start next morning.
We went
over to Gibraltar for the sister’s flight back to Liverpool on Easy Jet, it turns out that they
are not carrying on with the Liverpool flights from the end of October ! Brenda
walked across the border with Norah and Jenny to find out the old airport had
closed, finally, and they where on the first flight out from the new airport !
See the picture above. They arrived safely home only half an hour late – we are
already looking forward to their next visit next year !! We did the shopping on
our way home and for supper we had Calves Liver again with all the trimmings
before we settled down to watch the classic film of the week – “ High Noon
”with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly.
Thought for
the Day;
Sadness
flies away on the wings of time.

MONDAY 24th/ SEPTEMBER 2012.
MONDAY 24th
SEPTEMBER 2012 THE BIRTHDAY BOY REACHES
67 – UNDAMAGED –JUST.
The weather
is still fine but in the middle of the week the tail end of ‘Tropical Storm
Nadine ’is forecast to hit us overnight on Tuesday and last until Saturday;
Monday was another fine day as we had a little lie in before breakfast, the
sisters in the morning like their Weetabix with Bananas to start them for the
day! As the day went on the messages from all over the world came in on
Facebook from family, friends old and new and ex- staff; I also spoke online on
Facebook to friends as they saw that I was online – you have to think and type
quickly ! Tim phoned on the Skype Video so we had a nice long chat and caught
up with all their news – the latest was that they had settled Ben into his
university on Sunday, Edge Hill in Ormskirk outside Liverpool in their new car
a VWGTCC ! It looks rather special !! Then Brian and Lilli called on Viber from
Finland, they had not got through on the mobile so called on the landline – my
mobile had gone funny over the weekend and finally had switched it’s self off
on Monday Morning ?! After our call Brian checked out the Samsung Galaxy and
sent me details via Facebook about how to sort the problem out – it seems that
it is quite a common fault in the programme – bingo, with in a few minutes as
was back online and up to date on the Mobile ! Thanks Big Brian! Sadly we where
not able to get in touch via the Skype Video in the morning to Jack and Lyn in
Australia as we found later on Facebook from the family that they had gone away
,up country to Mildura ! I also had lots of good old fashioned cards including
two from Brenda, she could not fine one that said everything that she wanted to
say !! Arh !! In the evening we cracked open a very nice bottle “ Codorniu Cava Rose ” as you can see in the
picture below; there was a picture of me but I am still having problems with
new ‘ Google Blog Publishing ’ page and have lost it ,at the moment, Andy is
coming around on Friday morning to help me sort it out and see if we can figure
out how to publish the blog with paragraphs and spaces ! As you can see it’ s
still not working !! He is also going to sort out a major problem that I have
with the small PC after Mano called in on Monday morning to use my printer; his
PC was not working and he had no ink in his printer after his daughter Sally
Ann had been using it ! He was in a rush and would not be patient with my
system to load and the outcome is that now nothing is working ! After he had
printed his documents !! Watch this space !!! For dinner we had Pan-fried
flattened breast of Chicken in foaming Lemon Butter with Basmati Rice and a creamed Mushroom sauce.
A nice day with Brenda, Norah and Jenny down here in Sunny Manilva.
Thought for
the Day;
Life isn’t about
finding yourself; it is about creating yourself.

MANILVA OVER THE WEEKEND.
SATURDAY/SUNDAY 15th/16th/ SEPTEMBER 2012.
The forecast for the weekend’s weather was hot and sunny reaching 33 degs by Sunday; it is carrying on into next week but by Thursday it is sadly going a little cooler for the arrival on Norah and Jenny! We had a nice day taking things easy on Saturday and at lunchtime we went up to Bar Rojas for a cool drink sat under the Sonbrajo; in the afternoon Brenda retired to the roof terrace to read and I caught up with football over in England on the large PC,Brian had fixed the sports channel last week, sadly both Liverpool and Manchester City could only draw their games 1-1 – later in the ‘ Liga ’here in Spain Barcelona had a good win at Getafe 4-1 but Real Madrid lost 1-0 at Seville and are now 10th in the ‘Liga ’Maurinho is not looking happy and Ronaldo is in one of his ‘ Ronaldo Sulks ’ Barcelona are top and in second place is our local ‘ Liga ’team Malaga ! On Tuesday it is the visit of Manchester City to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions league – Real Madrid are not playing well and it is just the right time for City to get a result ! Come on the ‘ Blues ’ – Carlos and Mano are starting to get excited ! In the evening for supper we had rare ‘ Steak a la Plancha ’with Green Beans and crisp Chips before settling down to watch the TV.
Over the weekend we have had some good films to watch; “ Space Cowboys ” from 2000 was produced, directed and starred Clint Eastwood with James Garner, Donald Sutherland and Tommy Lee Jones all playing themselves as four ex-retired old test pilots sent into space on a mission to save the world ! Watch it to find out if they did !! Then we watched “ Firewall ”starring Harrison Ford in a 2006 thriller with the bad guy played by Paul Bettany, it gets rather exciting at the end and finally “ The Generals Daughter ” from 1999 which is a murder mystery based in an army camp and starring John Travolta,Madelaine Stowe and James Cromwell.
On Sunday morning after making the ‘ Boulangere ’potatoes we got ourselves ready slowly and went up to Bar Rojas for our ‘ Paella ’lunch; the folks from Manchester that we met on Saturday came along as we had recommended the ‘Paella ’to them, we should be on commission at Bar Rojas ! So we all sat down under the Sonbrajo in the lunchtime hot sunshine – 33 degs. Later we took another picture of the ‘ Bamford’s and Haslorm’s on the crossing as you can see in the picture below, I forgot to give them our details as they were leaving so as they can contact us next year when they are threatening to return ! i.e.; malcolm.sexton@googlemail.com and our phone numbers – mobile 628529975 and home 952890548 ! Just as they were going Mano and Anna came along and joined us as Mano had finished work early so we caught up with their news at the same time. In the evening we had our local Lamb Cutlets roasted on the potatoes for supper, they are rather small and not as meaty as ours but we make up for it with quantity – they are very tasty and the ‘ Boulangere ’Potatoes where to die for – even if a do say so myself !
Finally over the weekend we have been following the opening of ‘ TOSH ’over in Knutsford with interest, the place is all ready bouncing and as we spoke to Paul last evening as we were on the roof terrace – their best seller at the moment is the “ Cheshire Cheese Sausage ” that is pictured above ! There is a story and history about it that I will find out about when I next talk to David !
PS; “ The Tour of Britain ” which finished on Sunday after eight stages was won by ‘Jonathan Tieman-Locke ’who is the first British ride to win it in the last 19 years. Cavendish saved his energies at the end as next week it is the World Championships in Holland where he is the favourite to retain the ‘ Rainbow Jersey ’that he won last year but he still managed to win the final stage - his third of the Tour !
Thought or the Day;
Some people dream of success; while others wake up and work hard at it.

MANILVA START OF THE WEEKEND
THURSDAY/FRIDAY 13th/14th SEPTEMBER 2012.
We are now catching up with the chores around the house; Brenda is in full cleaning mode so the washing machine has not been off since the folks left, it is very good drying weather up on the terrace and the ironing board and iron have taken a bashing, in fact we had to buy a new iron this morning as the old one gave up the ghost last night! The sisters are arriving next Thursday for a week, flying into Gibraltar so I have arranged for the hire car as we can’t fit them and all the luggage in the Fiesta ! We are starting to make plans as it is my Birthday on the Monday while they are here ! The pictures below show the ‘Old Sessions House Pub and Kitchen ’in Knutsford on it’s opening day on Wednesday, we are also back to going for walks around the village with Cheta so you can see that the work on the new underground car park is shooting up, I climbed between the cement delivery trucks to get the pictures as the fence was down ! Brian rang us on Viber ( no cost ) on Thursday lunchtime to tell us that they were home safely and he has just sent us a Facebook message to say that they have looked at the Blog and found out what they have been up to !! And seen the pictures !!! I have also been catching up with the ‘Tour of Britian,Mark Cavendish has won two back to back stages, come second in another and crashed on the first stage when in sight of the finish ! Watch this space. Last night,Thursday, for supper we had good old Cold Ham, Egg and Chips then watched the late classic film “ Giant ”from 1956 ! with Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and of course James Dean. I then watched the latest version of “ The Alamo ” from 2004 with Dennis Quaid,Billy Bob Thornton and Jason Patric – you can’t beat the classic one with directed by and starring John Wayne back in 1960 with Richard Widmark and Laurence Harvey !
This morning , Friday, we went as usual to do the shopping down in Sabinillas, before we left I logged onto the BBC ONE Web Page to watch and listen to the final ‘ Chris Moyle’s Breakfast Show ’ – ‘ The Goodbye Show ’ It was broadcast live with camera’s in the studio so you could see the whole crew and put their voices to the faces – strange ! You could also see how the studio works to present the show, when we returned from the shopping I was able to catch the last ten minutes !! An end of end of an era.
As we were going for our walk I was just about to drop the rubbish in the street bins when a gentleman approached me from outside Bar Rojas and asked ‘ Are you Malcolm ?! ’ It turned out that he had been following the Blog from Day One ,seven years ago on the 1st September !! He found it by chance when he typed in ‘ Estepona ’ and has been a ‘ Fan ’ever since ! Graham and Josie Bamford and their friends Neil and Anna Haslorm from Manchester are staying down in an apartment by Puerto Duquesa and had come up to the village to look around ,they spotted me by chance ! The picture below show’s them. minus one wife who was back down in the port, with Brenda and Cheta on the now famous “ Abbey Road ” picture opportunity !! So nice to meet them and find out that there are more people out there following us ! Tonight for supper we are having Baby Soles grilled in Lemon Butter with Prawns and new Potatoes.
Thought for the Day;
If you give appreciation to people, you win their goodwill. But more important than that, practicing the philosophy has made a different person of me.

MANILVA TODAY.
TUESDAY 11th/SEPTEMBER 2012.
BRIAN AND LILLI STILL HERE IN SUNNY MANILVA DAY 16 !
Well it is the folks last day here in sunny Manilva; Brian and Lilli shot down to the beach in Sabinillas to take in their last rays of sunshine before returning to the winter in Finland ! They then went on a farewell tour of all the bars between there and here saying goodbye to all their friends, ending up in Bar Rojas for a late lunch with Andy and Maria ( Day Off ) It was then siesta time before we all went out for their last evening in Manilva; their very good friends Jesus and Pili had asked us down to their ‘ Campo ’at the top of the village on the side of the valley, as you can see in the picture below, for dinner with them; it is a working farm with fruit and vegetables and lots of animals which they live off, we joined them at the kitchen table for a memorable meal, we started with their own Goats Cheese, made on Monday, served on slices of Tomato from the field below ! Pili then brought to the table from the oven ‘ Chibo ’- Roast Baby Goat ( Killed last week ) with mixed Vegetables; for the dessert we had Pili’s famous ‘ Fig Cake ’very tasty and rich and moist. Shots of different flavours followed to end our meal with them as you can see in the picture below. The ‘Abbey Road ’picture was taken by a passing stranger before I could pose properly !
WEDNESDAY MORNING 4-00AM 12th SEPTEMBER 2012.
We hit the road to Malaga Airport early this morning to catch their flight to Turku in Finland which is on the coast below Pori; we have just received a ‘ Viber’text message to say that they have arrived safely home ! See the picture below taken at the airport ! We are missing them ! Their toothbrushes are still in the bathroom so we are waiting to see them come down, late, to go out for breakfast up at Bar Rojas ! Thanks for a “ Helluva ”three weeks – how time flies when you are having fun !!
Thought for the Day;
It is the friends you can call up at 4-00am that matter !
