MANILVA THIS SUNDAY.
SUNDAY 26th FEBRUARY 2012.
We had a lie in on Sunday morning and after our tea and toast we got the Sunday Roast on the go – Chicken – with all the trimmings along with Brenda’s vegetables including creamed Leeks for a change; after freshening up we went for a short walk and sat in the warm sunshine down at the Mirador. We then walked back up to Bar Rojas and sat outside to have a drink and a Paella lunch which is freshly made and is ready about half past two; Brenda has a Tapas portion and I have a ‘ Ration ’ half portion. It’s the only way to eat Paella ! When we got back Brenda went up on the roof terrace to finish her book and I retired to the office to watch the football; I first caught the game between Arsenal and Spurs, it was the best game in ages, as I joined it Arsenal were 2-0 down and looked finished, by half time they had scored two good goals 2-2 game on ! In the second half Arsenal played some sublime football and saw Spurs out of the game with three more goals 5-2 the end result!! Up in Scotland at Murrayfield the Scots lost to France 23-17 in the Six Nations Rugby; It was then time for the ‘ Carling Cup Final ’from Wembley between Cardiff and Liverpool ; it started bad for Liverpool when Cardiff scored after 20 mins. and it took until the 60th min. for then to equalize with a goal from Skrtel, Carrol was taken off and Kuyt scored within five mins, to make the score 2-1 then Liverpool sat back and allowed Cardiff to score in last two mins 2-2 After extra time it went to a penalty shoot out – Gerrard’s penalty was saved and then Gerrard missed the penalty for Cardiff to give Liverpool the win – Anthony Gerrard Stevens younger cousin !! Luck Liverpool !!!
In the evening after dinner we caught up with the news and sport over here; Real Madrid won 0-1 with a Ronaldo back heel and Barcelona hung on against Atl- Madrid 1-2 so there is no change at the top of ‘ La Liga ’Madrid are ten points ahead. Sunday night is film night so we had a choice of films so we watched on TVE1 ( No Adverts ) “ Taken ” 2008 which starred Liam Neeson as a retired CIA agent trying to find his seventeen year old daughter in Paris,she had been abducted by Albanian crooks to be sold into prostitution – an all action thriller – one to watch.
Thought for the Day;
It is the dull man who is always sure, and the sure man who is always dull.

MANILVA THIS WEEKEND.
Saturday 25th February 2012.
After our breakfast on Saturday morning we went for a long walk with Cheta around the village; the forecast for the weekend is warm and sunny,reaching 22 degs on Sunday.As we came down to the football ground we could see that there was something on,the police had closed the road and all the traffic for the ground was parked in a large field at the bottom of the village;there was a Seven-a-Side Football Tournament on over two days for three different age groups from the junior league.The ground was packed with supporter's and had a great atmosphere as the matches took place on the two pitches at the same time over a shorter playing time.There was an entrance fee with no deductions for pensioner's so watched the matches from the path around the ground !We also took the pictures below at the same spot.
When we got back to the house Brenda shot up to the roof terrace to take in the sun,the longer range forecast for March is rain but we can't complain as we have had none since last May !! In the afternoon I watched the Rugby on the new sports channel that I'am using which is very good - at the moment that I'am typing this I'am watching the Carling Cup Final from Anfield South ( Wembley )! Oh dear Cardiff have just scored against Liverpool ! The first game was cracker with Ireland beating Italy 42-10 and the man of the match was Jonathan Sexton !Then it was the turn of England v Wales; it was a good game and both teams played all right at times,in the last few minutes Wales scored a great try and the match ended 12-19 for them with a disputed touch down for England not allowed in the last minute ! As the England match was starting we went off to the bottom of the village to watch the Carnival procession as it was due to start at 5-30pm,we should have known better,it was one and a half hours late starting and so we shot back to the house and had a drink and I caught the end of the England game !
The Carnival was led by a Samba Drum Band which created a terrific sound and rhythm as it passed the top of our street along Calle Mar.The pictures above show the procession on its way to the Pavilion by the sports complex where all the fancy dress judging took place and the music and dancing later.For supper we had Steak and Chips and then watched some TV.
Thought for the Day;
A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark.

MANILVA THIS WEEK.
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY/FRIDAY 22nd/23rd/24th FEBRUARY 2012.
The forecast for the next few days and over the weekend is more of the same and getting a little warmer; by lunchtime with the clear blue skies and the sun it is starting to reach 20degs+ ! After our tea and toast on Wednesday morning we went for a long walk around the village and took the pictures that you can see below, as we reached the new Social Services Office they were just finishing the square and the boss man very kindly turned on the water feature and also let me have a look round inside as you can see in my exclusive pictures ! When we got back we had the update from Australia on Jack that I posted as a Newsflash, we are planning to Skype Video them on Saturday morning to have a chat, hopefully. In the afternoon Brenda was up on the roof terrace doing the ironing with her top off ! I was in the office on the WWW and also on the BBCIPlayer watching ‘ Saturday Morning Kitchen ’James Martin did another old favourite ‘ Crepes Suzette ’ which will appear on our menu in the future as we have Crepes quite often. In the evening we had Escalope of Turkey Breast pan fried in Lime Butter with Basmati Rice and a creamed Mushroom sauce followed by more Crepes after Tuesdays as I had made enough batter.
Thursday morning was another glorious day as we set off with Cheta,we ended up down at the sports field where one of the classes from the Junior School was having an Olympic sports day that they were taking very seriously as you can see, one of our friends children Jake came in third in the relay race and our local councilors son Mario came second ! When we came back to the house Mano and Anna called for a chat,Mano is back in work so we don’t see as much of him at the moment; In the afternoon I spent some time on the new phone installing my Facebook detail’s-mail contacts, all my phone contacts and my Skype; I have downloaded on the PC the manual and are following the instructions with mostly success ! The football this week has been the Europa Cup matches second legs,Manchester City easily beat last years champions Porto 6-1 but Manchester Utd. only just hung on against Ajax losing on the night 2-1 but winning on aggregate ! For supper for a change we had Egg, Beans and Chips and then settled down to watch “ Doctor Zhivago ” for the first time in over forty years ! Brenda and I went on one of our first dates to see it in the late sixties in Liverpool and of course the rest is history including Brenda designing her wedding dress from the picture below of Geraldine Chaplin just about to be kissed by Omar Sharif !! Think about it !!!
Today,Friday we went down to do the shopping in Sabinillas and got a lift down and back by regulars that watch out for us – very kind and thanks to them both – we broke the record and were back within the hour. Brenda was out walking Cheta and met Anna with Derrick in Bar Augustine for a coffee meanwhile I was slaving over a hot stove making a rich Tomato and Chorizo sauce to go with the Albondigas tonight for supper that we having with Spaghetti before we settle down to watch a film.
PS; We have just come off the Skype Video and have spoken to Jack and Lyn,Saturday morning there, Jack looks terrific and is certainly back to his cheeky self,he has one " Helluva " scar - he showed it to us ! Considering it is only one week since the operation he is remarkable ! He has a compression cushion to clasp to his chest if he coughs and is walking a little further each day - ' Good on Ya Jack '
PPS; Tomorrow it is ' Carnival Day ' in Sunny Manilva - Watch out Manilva the ' Sextons ' are in a dancing mood ! Watch out for the pictures.
