MANILVA TO THE SIMPSON DESERT IN AUSTRALIA.

MONDAY 10th OCTOBER 2011.

First thing on Monday morning we walked around to the surgery for my appointment to see our doctor about the results of my yearly checkup; everything is fine and in working order, the Diabetic level is down and stable, Blood pressure is under control and my Cholesterol levels are in line, so the tablets are working! I have to go for an ultra sound scan on the Prostrate as it is over two years since my biopsy and last check, we put the form in at the surgery as we came out and they rang on Tuesday morning to confirm an appointment for January 2012, no great emergency then!

The weather forecast for this week is very good; in fact it is the best and hottest October since before records started; in the North West and along the coast to San Sebastian it is over 30degs and in the centre of Spain on the high sierra around Madrid it is even hotter, down here we re also into the 30s and the area around Seville is as usual the hottest at 34degs!

Brenda is spending more time up on the roof terrace as she has now just caught up with all her cleaning, washing and ironing, meanwhile I’m on the PCs following all the news, sport and TV programmes now as I’ve got all the connections working that Brian set up before he went to Finland. In the evening after supper of Pork Cutlets and Boulangere Potatoes we settled down to watch the TV, for the first time we have been able to watch a film in English on a particular channel which broadcasts various series and films, the film was ‘Spy Game ’and starred Robert Redford and Brad Pitt in a CIA drama, I had watched the same film in Spanish a couple of weeks ago so was able to confirm that I had understood the story!

The picture below is rather special and relevant to the picture blog that I’ am about to put on and which will appear above – all will become clear! Brenda found it in one of her old stack of family pictures and is shows a one year old young lady on her way to Australia on the boat passing Cape Town in the mid 50s; it is Deb,Lyn’s oldest daughter, who is now a grandmother, Lyn is in the background !! She has just come back from a trek with her husband,Dornoch,and four friends that I mentioned a few weeks ago; they have posted on Facebook a lot of pictures of their adventures in the Australian outback on their way to the Simpson Desert, they went in three especially adapted Four x Fours and drove over 4567 kms ! It shows the real heart of a very large country which is spectacular in every aspect. It will give you a view of the outback and desert and the sheer space, Deb comments at one stage to say that they can see the curvature of the Earth as they are driving towards the horizon! On the way up to the desert they pass through some very small towns, one has only three buildings! It looks like something from an Australian film. They camped out under the vast sky and took in the sounds of the wild animals as they cooked over open fires, they even at one stage made fresh Bread in a made up oven! She had cryo – vacked all their fresh meat and planned what they were going to eat, they ate very well and I will post more details of their food and other interesting facts after publishing the pictures. We have followed the trip on the large wall map that we have in the office which is very comprehensive and it shows lots of facts and details at the same time.

Thought for the Day;

Your joy is divine and so is you suffering, there’s so much to be learned from both.
