MANILVA FRIDAY EVENING.

FRIDAY 5th AUGUST 2011.

Tonight’s concert performed by ‘Feast Gueteque’ had a packed audience of all ages as we sat in Calle Mar on a warm, balmy evening to watch the show after our Tapas supper; the music was mainly Spanish Dance/Disco hits from the 60s 70s and 80s but they did perform some great English oldies, Gloria, Rock around the Clock, Black is Black, etc. All sang in Spanish with La Bamba especially going down well! Our end of the crowd outside Bar Rojas was the nosiest as we sang and danced along, at one stage Brenda and I did our Rock and Roll best dance and I ended up dancing a very good Jive with Lucy! Another great night in sunny Manilva – the forecast for Saturday is 38degs and rising !

When we got home we then watched on TVE2 a concert from Cartegena which is on the Med coast below Murcia. It was rather good and very different, ‘ Mar de Musicas ’ opening night was homage to the guest nation,Italy, the first evening’s performance was entitled ‘ The night of the Tarantas ’and featured Stuart Copeland ( Ex – drummer of The Police ) with the very unusual ‘ Ensemble La Notte della Taranta ’It comes from a festival in Puglia when they hold a ritual against the bite of the Terantula ! The music copies the beating of the musician’s instruments to bring the victim to a frenzy to exorcise the venom of the female spider! Over twenty musicians on all sorts of instruments, Accordian, Violin, Piano, Percussion, Drums, Large Hand Tambourines, Brass and Guitar sections,Mandoline and singers bring to the music its own pace, its own rhythm yet is hypnotic and compelling – Stuart Copeland had a large set of drums/tambourines and set a terrific beat, even at one stage playing the tambourines with his feet ! One to see and hear.
