Tuesday 31st March.
We have just come off the Skype phone after speaking to and seeing Jack and Lyn in Mc Crae,Australia via a video call link up for the first time! Sadly they could not see us due to technical difficulties but any day now we will get the technology working! They have also seen and read our blog-page about the wedding and saw the pictures that we had posted from the wedding;yesterday we rang Norah,Brenda’s sister in Runcorn to tell her to check out the blog so as she could also look at the pictures and tell Jenny,Brenda’s other sister on the Wirral about them.We have also started to write up a family tree as we put names to faces from the Facebook wedding pictures ready for when Jack and Lyn visit us in June.

CASA OLIMPIA.
This morning after packing and getting ready to move out we had still not received a phone call from Chris to confirm when they will be back so we had to go down to Tarifa to stock up for the weekend again;the sun is out ( 24 Degs. and Rising) and the wind has dropped so we found the beach at the start of the bay and took the pictures below to show what a spectacular setting it is here in Tarifa. The first picture shows Joan and Brenda on the Web-Cam after lunch as we practised using it for the first time! They are now sat on the balcony having their afternoon tea and cake in the very warm sunshine.
PS; Chris phoned in the late afternoon and we don't think that we will be home before Monday at the earliest, the start of week six-the saga continues!

Thursday 26th March.
The sun was out and with only a light breeze we were able to sit on the lower balcony by the large lounge for breakfast and lunch; the top balcony by the master bedroom catches the sun in the afternoon and it was very pleasant for a change as we looked out towards Africa and the Rif Mountains, the Strait was covered in a sea mist and the only thing showing was the top of the mountains above the cloud base behind the coast and Ceuta.
Brenda has once again put a sparkle on the villa and caught up with her washing and ironing as we prepare yet again to move back to Manilva. In the morning we cleaned the cars and I washed down outside the front entrance with my new found hosepipe, I’ve always found using a hose very calming and therapeutically over the years I’ve used it to get rid of stress! Not that I need it now!! In the evening we had Sausage and Mash for dinner with crispy Smoked Bacon and Cabbage and I made a White Onion sauce for a change.Later on Chris phoned and Joan spoke to him after I had sent him a text message,we think he is in Spain and are waiting for a phone call from him to confirm when they will be home.

CASA OLIMPIA.
Tuesday / Wednesday 24th/25th March.
Tuesday 24th.
As we got up it was warm and sunny, for a change, so we shot down to Tarifa to go to the Hypermarket and then we stopped in the old town to go to the Chemist’s and then pick up some light bulbs; we are planning to be here until Saturday, yesterday I picked up Baby cards for Charlie and Aidan, aWedding card for Lyn and also a Birthday card for Joan as it is Chris’s birthday over the weekend and then found the post box in Tarifa! When we got back to the villa it was so nice that we decided to wash the Smart car and Chris’s and I found a hose pipe to finish them off and also wash down outside at the same time, the dogs kept out of the way as they both need a good bath, but won’t let us near them! In the evening for dinner we all had, but not the dogs! Steak and Frits with all the trimmings before we watched TV.
Wednesday 25th.
Today the wind as we got up has started blowing again and when we went outside both cars were covered in Sahara dust, typical! The Skype phone went off as I was online, it was Jack and Lyn calling to catch up with all the news and try the new Web Cams at both ends, but with no luck at the moment-HELP! As we were talking about the family over in Australia we worked out that Lyn has four children, seven grandchildren and two Great Grandchildren whilst Jack has also four children and nine Grandchildren! This is just the tip of the Iceberg and is why when Lyn and Jack come to stay with us in June we are going to mark them all up on the large wall map that Jane, our friend in Chester is finding for us! Only yesterday we made friends on Facebook with Kelly Dutton but were not sure were she was in the family tree; it turns out that she is the wife of Michael,Debs son who is one of Lyn’s daughters and they have two daughters called Bethany and Livia who are the two Great Grandchildren !! Many years ago Deb came to England with Michael when he was only three/four and we met them, he was a little terror and a right handful at the time! So now we are all talking on Facebook and catching up with all the news, Brenda says that I am getting just as excited as her discovering them all! Nice talking to you Kelly on Facebook and we look forward to hearing all about your life and family and give our love to “ Little” Michael!
The sun is just trying to come out but the Tarifa wind is getting up so we are not going to wash the cars, again at the moment. Tonight we are having for dinner Pork Escalope’s in a Ham and Mushroom sauce with Brenda’s selection of vegetables which she is getting ready in the kitchen as I type this!

Monday 23rd March.
As we are here for another week I shot across to the bank in Estepona, then went into the hypermarket to buy a new Web-Cam for the large PC,called into the card shop and then finally the English butchers to keep us going till the end of the week. The weather in Estepona was hot and sunny with a little breeze but here it is still windy,as usual and the forecast is not much better! Back at the villa Brenda had given Joan’s flat the once over and has burnt out the dryer in the downstairs washing room, its back to the old way,out in the wind to dry! We then spent an hour in the kitchen,Brenda says that it is like a Restaurant; Preparation,Cooking,Serving and then Washing up and then the same again day after day! Tonight we are having a Savory Chicken Stir-Fried Rice with vegetables, the dogs are getting a Chicken dinner with Gravy and the Mince is on for their meals for tomorrow!! It’s a Dogs Life !! This afternoon I have set up the Web-Cam and got it working so I am now going to find somebody to do a test Skype Web-Cam call to check out that it works OK for the Wedding on Saturday in Australia.Below are some pictures of the Azalea plants that we put in the kitchen at the end of February and which have just come into full bloom!

Saturday 21st March.
Well we are still here at the villa in Tarifa; first thing this morning we had a phone call from Chris, firstly to apologies for not contacting us yesterday and then to give us the good news,he has sold his business in England after long and difficult negotiations and had signed the contract yesterday afternoon! We are now waiting for him to phone back and confirm when they are coming home,at long last! We have just come back from Tarifa after stocking up once again for the weekend,on the way down we came across a nasty crash that had only just happened, a mini bus had overturned on a bad corner with about 6/8 people in it.The road past here and over to Cadiz is very hilly with lots of bends and is always busy,at the weekend it is one of the runs that the motorcycles use similar to the road to Ronda.Tonight we are having Steak and Frits for dinner, which Joan is looking forward to and we are roasting a Chicken on Sunday.

As we got up this morning the sun was out and the wind had gone! Brenda has got the villa sparkling and we have packed our bags and are ready for the off this evening after I’ve picked Chris up from Gibraltar airport.During the day there was no call from England to confirm that he was on his way back and as it got time to go,still no phone call! So we are still here and have unpacked for the third time! In the evening we spoke to Tim in Colwyn Bay and caught up with all the news,Ben can’t go on his Ski trip as his shoulder will not be right in time;It turns out that Tim and Thea had a plan in mind to come and see us over Easter while Ben was away but that will now be for another day! In the morning as I was checking the e-mails I took a look at the new Google Street View which had just come on line; I managed to get Colwyn Bay up and walk around the town but could not bring up Tim’s road in Old Colwyn! For supper we had Fillet of Salmon in Foaming Cucumber Butter with New Potatoes and Garden Peas.

This morning we went down to Tarifa to top up with the essentials as we are expecting the folks home this weekend,we hope! It’s been nearly four weeks and we are looking forward to going home at long last!! The wind has dropped and in Tarifa the sun was out;there are a lot of ships about down in the Strait and when I checked on the web page it turns out that there is a Naval exercise going on as well as the usual ships passing to and through to places all over the world! Mark,Mano’s building partner has just sent me an e-mail asking me to take some measurements around the villa, which I sent back to him in good old Feet and Inches, as they are finalizing the quote for this weekend when Chris is home.Tonight we are having Pan Fried Turkey Breast with a Mushroom sauce and Frits for dinner as Joan enjoyed it last time, the dogs are having Mince and Vegetables which I did yesterday especially for them!

CASA OLIMPIA.
Monday 16th March.
Still no change in the weather as I set off for Estepona first thing in the morning to go to the bank;it was hot and sunny and I needed the air-con on for the first time this year! On the way back I called into the English butchers and picked up some Sausages for dinner tonight as well as few other things for the week.Brenda called to say that Chris and Kerry had been on the phone with an update; Chris is now coming back on Friday evening to Gibraltar and I will pick him up in the Smart car,Kerry is arranging a flight to Lisbon over the weekend and will drive back in their car. This means that we will have been here for 26 days, instead of 7!! When I came back from Estepona we then went out to Tarifa to the Hypermarket to stock up for another week and at the same time we called into the Chemists for some tablets for Joan as she is starting to run short on her medications.Chris phoned back later to confirm the details and asked me to do a couple of jobs on the phone to keep up with the normal day to day running of things;he also asked me to chase up Mano with the quote for the work on the villa and some other jobs that he is hoping to get Mano to do when he returns;which is good news for Mano! Brenda has just started on her Mash which we are having with the Sausages together with Crispy Bacon and Fried Onions for dinner tonight.

Sunday 15th March.
The weather has change again and it is now cloudy with a breeze;we have unpacked and settled back in as we did not hear from Chris on Saturday afternoon. No Sunday Roast today as we did not expect to still be here! All the dogs and cats are fine and Joan is back to her old self after her problem at the start of the week.Brenda is taking it easy and we are having a rest day in front of the TV and catching up with some reading. Wales did beat Italy on Saturday, just but today England murdered France! I made a Red Pepper Sauce to go with all the left overs from Saturday for supper and we will wait to see what happens on Monday morning.
CASA OLIMPIA.
Saturday 14th March.
Well at last the sun is out and over night the wind dropped so we have been able to sit out on the balcony for breakfast and lunch;the sky is bright blue and the views are to die for! No word this morning from the folks in England so we think that they have missed their flight to Lisbon,we went down to the hypermarket in Tarifa and have stocked up for the weekend, again as we don’t think that Chris and Kerry will be back before Monday now! I’ve been following the Liverpool match on BBC sport on the PC and on the TV watching the live news update on Setanta so I’ve been running between the TV lounge and the office like a mad man as well as ringing Tim in Colwyn Bay who was watching it live; LIVERPOOL beat Manchester Utd. 1-4! Tonight we are having Pan Fried Flattened Chicken Breast with a Mushroom Sauce and Savory Rice that I made at lunchtime. Brenda is sat out on the balcony reading and I am now going to watch the Rugby when Wales should beat Italy!
PS; Chris has just phoned to say,as we guessed, that they have missed the flight this morning and he will ring back later this afternoon with their new travel arrangements.

CASA OLIMPIA
Thursday/Friday 12th/13th March.
Thursday 12th.
We have unpacked and settled back in to our routine with the dogs and cats; Joan, who is no problem to look after is also keeping well and is eating everything that we cook.Tonight we are having a Beef Stew which I made at lunchtime so that I was able to watch the racing on the TV in the afternoon. In the evening we rang Tim in Colwyn Bay to catch up with all his news as he has been away in Germany for a week and came back last weekend and went off to Cardiff straight away on more business; The main news was that Ben,his son had broken his shoulder playing football and is rather disappointed that he might not be able to go away on the school ski trip in a few weeks!Get well soon Ben!! I also rang Anna in Manilva to catch up with all her news and ours, she said that all our neighbors and the local bar owners are asking after us as we had told them that we would be away for a week!
Friday 13th !
During the night the wind has got up again,I suppose it is to be expected as Tarifa is the Surf and Kite capital of Southern Europe! We have not heard from Chris and Kerry as to when they will be home;they have to fly to Lisbon as their car is parked at the airport, then drive back to here.Brenda has again given the house a sparkle and at the same time washed and ironed all the bedding ready to change our bed and put fresh on theirs. We have also bought a couple of Azalea plants for in the large kitchen and have a bottle of Cava on ice ready for the Kir Royals on their return! This afternoon we have been watching the final day of the Cheltenham Festival on the large screen TV,we have followed it all week and today was the Gold Cup,Kauto Star won with Ruby Walsh on his back,it was very exciting;it also happened to be his seventh win at the meeting,a record! Tonight we are having Pan Fried Fillet of Salmon with a Cucumber sauce along with new Potatoes and Garden Peas.
PS; We have just had a phone call from Chris to say that they could be back on Saturday evening if the catch the plane early in the morning,if not watch this space!

As we were going to bed last night Joan had a little turn and was not too well,we settled her and installed a Baby alarm from her bedroom to ours, which worked very well as we took it in turns to watch out for her,she is a lot brighter this morning and looks and feels a lot better; we have made her have a lie in and to take it easy today. The weather is a little better and the ten day forecast is starting to look up,about time too as this is supposed to be the Costa del Sol ! Over the weekend we had a lot of e-mails from family and friends which is always nice, thank you including one from Victor in Madrid,he is Rafael and Jills youngest son and he sent us a message on hi5 the Spanish Facebook! I’ve also be found on “Twitter” by a friend from North Wales,Mike Smith which is the new and latest on line contact, etc.which is on the news all the time at the moment! Today is also a very special day for Sally Ann,Mano and Anna’s daughter,it is her 40th birthday and she is London for a long weekend hitting the high spots with friends; let your hair down girl and have an “ Helluva ” time,we can’t wait to see the pictures!!Happy Birthday Sally.

Saturday 7th.
As we are here until the middle of next week we went down to Tarifa to stock up with the essentials, the town was getting ready for the Carnival over the weekend. The weather has started to pick up and some sunny spells are heading our way! Hip,Hip,Hooray!! The dogs are a dream to look after and we will miss them terribly when we finally leave to go back to Manilva, which must be missing us by now!! Dinner tonight is Lamb Cutlets roasted on Boulangere Potatoes with Brenda’s selection of vegetables, Joan has a very good appetite and eats everything we give her,in small portions! Later we watched the TV before putting the dogs to bed, don’t ask!!
Sunday 8th
We awoke to a very sunny day and the wind has dropped as well so we were able to sit out on the balcony for our morning Tea and Toast, overlooking the Strait’ and Africa. Today we are having Roast Leg of Pork for Sunday lunch with all the trimmings and Joan is coming down to join us and also get a little fresh air on the balcony at the same time;the Crackling was excellent, even if I do say so myself! Over the weekend we had some great news on the Baby front and news of a wedding in the family as you will read about below.

CASA OLIMPIA.
Wednesday/Friday 4th/6th March.
Wednesday 4th March.
It is still grey and cloudy so we shot down to Tarifa to the hypermarket, then to the chemists for some tablets for Joan and we also found a Ferretetia and picked up light bulbs for the villa.Tarifa was getting ready for it’s Carnival weekend and the main street was closed and the stage was being erected in front of the church. As we were out for a couple of hours we rang Joan to check on her; in the afternoon we had some more short power cuts and also Joan’s kettle keeps blowing the fuses as she makes her cup of tea.The cats are not a problem as they just come and go as they please but Boo and Millie, who are adorable, need lots of attention and love, all the time;at night we have to put them to bed in the large kitchen and one of us stays with them till they go to sleep, especially Boo! In the morning they let us know when it is time to go out,at first light! Brenda does the early shift and I do the late shift!
Thursday 5th March.
The weather was little better today as we spent the time catching up with some chores around the villa,I’ve replaced all the light bulbs that were not working in the office and kitchen and have moved some pictures around in Joan’s flat as she likes to change things every so often, meanwhile Brenda has caught up with the washing, the dryer makes a big difference when the weather is not good for drying. In the afternoon I made a Beef Stew with ten different vegetables for dinner which we had with Braised Cabbage and sliced, fresh Beetroot!Later we watched on the very large screen TV the news,we have also watched “ Grand Designs and QI ”over the last couple of days which are our favorites at the moment.
Friday 6th March.
The phone went first thing in the morning,it was Chris ringing from London to ask if we could stay another few days until next Wednesday/Thursday, as they have more business meetings they could attend. We can so I had to go over to Estepona to the bank as our Debit Card is not working and when we were out shopping on Thursday it gave us a lot of problems,At the same time I called into the English butchers and picked up a Leg of Pork for Sunday lunch. The weather over in Estepona was hot and sunny but back here it started to rain again as we washed the Smart car and Chris’s Mercedes! This also means that we will miss the Carnival weekend in Manilva but our house sitting jobs are important to us and we think that we will get a lot more work from Chris and Kerrie in the future-we hope! We are also due to go over to Guadalmina Alta shortly to look after the animals at Clive and Caroline’s rented villa as the workmen have started on their villa and it will take three months,Judi and Brian in Mijas are also due to e-mail us at any moment so you can see why we needed the calendar,Penny!! Tonight we are having Salmon Fillets for dinner as they are one of Joan’s favorites and then we will watch a DVD.

Today is the first day for a week that we have been able to go out in the garden,we have blue skies with some clouds, warm sun and views across the Straites of Gibraltar to Africa; The pictures above also show the new villa just above us and the older ones to the side;the Spanish enclave of Ceuta is in the left hand corner of the picture and the start of the Atlas Mountains behind the ship are very clear as well. The pictures below give you a idea of the size of the villa on the side of the valley on the hill overlooking Africa;the mature garden is full of fruit trees on the lower level and mature trees around the edges. It is just off the main road to Tarifa and onto Cadiz;this is also the area all around the hills and mountains for the largest wind farm in Europe.

ST.DAVIDS DAY 2009.
Sunday 1st March 2009.
Sorry to report but there is no change in the weather and the forecast is not looking much better for the next few days; after a little lie in Brenda was first up and let the dogs out into the large garden which is on a slight slope but has fine views across to Africa on a clear day! When we need a lemon we just go and pick a couple, later in the year the figs will be ready for picking and at the moment we are eating Tangerines;at this time of the year we have in the evening a chorus of frogs and other noisy creatures coming from around the pool which is full of rain water after the storms since Christmas! Today we sat down for our Sunday lunch with Joan in the kitchen, the Roast Chicken was succulent and we had Cauliflower in Cheese sauce,Carrots in Ginger,Leeks with Mushrooms,Cabbage with Smoked Bacon and crispy Roast Potatoes and a very nice finger coating gravy! For dessert we had Strawberries and ice cream, later we watched the St.Davids Day Songs of Praise from St.Davids Hall in Cardiff with Alyed Jones and Katherine Jenkins and joined in when we could!
