THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A VERY SUNNY MANILVA;

...

A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON SATURDAY.

SATURDAY 30th/ JUNE 2018.

We all had a nice lie in this morning as the village is even quieter than normal, over the past 24 hours there has been a ‘ 24 HR Sports Marathon ‘ down at the ‘ Las Vinas Sports Complex’ and around the village, with various Football games, Basket Ball, Climbing, Gymnastics, Running and last night’s Bicycle Race, around the centre of the village, finishing outside the Town Hall.

See below;

We missed most of the Cycle racing at between 10-00 pm/11-00pm as we were watching the final ever episode of the ‘Swedish/Danish ‘ police crime drama “ The Bridge “ (more later!) – so there are just a few pictures showing the atmosphere above!

After freshening up we took ‘ Paddy’ out for his first walk of the day, down to the bottom of the village, on the shady part of the street, he loves his early morning walk and never want’s to come back!  We ended up sat on the ‘ Mirador’ taking in the view across the valley to the mountains and down to a sparkling Mediterranean. He slept all night on the marble floor, he’s eating very well, drinking water all the time, we just love him, he’s a real character, great company, and a joy to have him with us here in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ Later after Brenda has washed/shampooed her hair, we are going to give him his first ‘ Bath/Shampoo’ for his 4 week anniversary with us! Watch this space.

When we returned Brenda was in charge of our breakfast so I had her famous ‘ Campo Poached Eggs on Toast’ with mugs of strong tea, she scrambled her Eggs, in the Microwave?! ( very un-Chef’y!) We have no plans for the weekend, we are just taking things very easy, keeping as cool as possible, drinking lots of cold water, with all the fans on, we are now in our full summer mode!

This morning it’s not so hot, the stiff breeze overnight has cleared the hot sun a little bit, the sky is clear and bright blue, there are a few clouds on the horizon, so by lunchtime it will be around 29 degs+ - tomorrow it’s starting  to get hotter, next week is going to be a very ‘hot-one’ going up to 34/35 degs by Friday, watch this space.

See below this morning sun rise over the Mediterranean.

This weekend on the sports front; today over in the ‘ Ladies Tennis’ in Eastbourne, it’s the final, next week Wimbledon starts on Monday, it’s the ‘ Grand Prix of Austria ‘ at the ‘Red Bull Ring ‘ on Sunday – meanwhile over in Russia at the ‘ World Cup Football’ the last 16 knock-out matches start today with France v Argentina & Uruguay v Portugal, the live ‘Flat Horse’ racing is from Newcastle.

For our supper this evening we are having ‘Grilled Fillet Steaks’ – cooked on a very hot griddle-plate ‘ Med-Rare’ – then left to rest, garnished with seared Asparagus Spears, Button Mushrooms & Shallots, with Whole ‘French’ Green Beans & twice-cooked ‘ Frits’ – with a sauceboat of the classic ‘ Bearnaise’ sauce. We are ordering later, when we are out with ‘Paddy’ – a ‘Roast Chicken ‘ from the local Rotisserie’ in  Calle Mar, for our Sunday night supper.

As I said above we watched, after our supper, the very exciting & excellent final ever episode of the ‘ Swedish/Danish ‘ police drama/murder series ( with sub-titles) of “ The Bridge “ – the ‘ Oresund’ flyover that connect Malmo and Copenhagen, as Saga ( Sofia Helin ) in a triumphant climax, the fearless & brilliant detective, uncovered the multi-killer, Susanne, the secret lover of the murdered police informant, the rogue detective was uncovered and at the end the wheelchair bound addict, the second killer, who turned out was the son of the police informant, and was able to walk,  was shot dead by Saga, as he was about to kill her detective partners daughter, all this after she has been shot by Susanne earlier, but was saved by a bullet-proof vest!

A sorrowful but fitting goodbye followed, as Saga  throws her police badge off the ‘ Oresound Bridge’ – to start a new life, ‘ Tak’ for the memories !!

PS; As I’ve been typing/posting the Blog I have been watching, live from Llandudno, the display of the “ Red Arrows ‘ – the ‘RAFs’ Aerobatic Team,( 9 pilots) – flying the ‘ BAE Hawk T1’ - as the town celebrates ‘National Armed Forces Day ‘

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA;

...

A BREEZY BUT STILL VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ON FRIDAY AT THE START OF THE WEEKEND.

FRIDAY 29th/ JUNE 2018.

We were both up very early this morning and after a quick freshen up, Brenda took ‘Paddy’ for his first walk of the day, he slept most of the night on the marble floor, after his cuddles before going to bed, he then had some more this morning, I went and collected the car from the underground car park and picked Brenda up at the bottom of our street, we then shot down to Sabinillas to the main ‘ Medical Centre’ as Brenda had her appointment for her blood test etc.

She’s back next Friday morning to see our Doctor, Natalia, for the results before we go across to the ‘ Costa Del Sol Hospital’ on the following Tuesday lunchtime for her appointment with the ‘ Kidney Consultant’  for her six month review/check up.

I carried on to ‘ itZabar ‘ for my toast & tea, Brenda joined me later for an orange juice before ‘ Mercadona ‘ opened, after doing our main weekly shop, Brenda picked up the local newspapers from the ‘ English Bookshop’ – before on the way back up the hill we called into ‘ Super Sol’ for the English’ essentials, after un-packing back at the house I put the car away, for another week.

This morning the sun was out first thing and the sky was bright blue as there is a light breeze blowing down from the mountains behind the village, overnight it kept things just a little cooler, it’s still very hot in the sunshine, but in the shade it’s very pleasant, by lunchtime it will be 30 degs+ - over the weekend we are in for more of the same, if a little  cooler at times, in the high 20s, next week is going to be a hot-one, to say the least, hovering into the low to mid 30s, watch this space.

See below the new ‘ BBQ Pit Boats ‘ that the Council have placed on the beach down in Sabinillas for the locals & holiday makers to use – free! ‘ ‘BBQ’s’ are not allowed on the beaches and in the country at this time of the year due to the fire risk.

Last night we had our ‘Tapas’ supper up at ‘ Bar Rojas’ – sat inside as the sun was too bright to put the large screen ‘TV’ outside, we had the TV to ourselves, as the locals were not interested in the game, as England played Belgium, they lost 1-0 , but progress to the ‘knockout stages’ next week when they play Colombia, we had a small selection of light Tapas, then Brenda had the ‘ House’ Croquettes & I had the ‘Chicken Fillets a la Plancha’ with ‘ Patatas Fritas’ and two ‘ Campo’ Fried Eggs!

This evening for our supper we are keeping things very simple, ‘Pan-Seared Tail-End Fillets of Salmon’ finished in a foaming Lemon Butter Salsa, with Broccoli Florets & Garden Peas with ‘ Parsley New Potatoes’ On Saturday evening we are having ‘ Grilled Fillet Steaks’ with all the trimmings and of course twice-cooked ‘ Chips’ For Sunday we are going to pick up a ‘ Roast Chicken’ from the local ‘Rotisserie’ in Calle Mar’ to have with a Mixed Salad selection.

It’s a big sports weekend around the World, which we will be following, but tomorrow here in sunny Manilva the local ‘Manilva Cycling Club’ have arranged a street race around the village in all the narrow streets,later this evening/night, last year it passed our front-door, watch this space.

See below;

This evening we will be watching the final episode of the ‘ Swedish/Danish ‘ police crime drama, with sub-titles, “ The Bridge “  after we catch the penultimate episode on the  ‘BBC I Player’ this afternoon, we missed last week’s episode, as we were out for Brenda Birthday supper!

THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY FROM A VERY SUNNY MANILVA;

...

A VERY HOT & SUNNY MANILVA ,WITH A LIGHT BREEZE, ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY 28th/ JUNE 2018.

I was up first this morning to see little princess ‘ Reina’ back for the day, as usual, she shot upstairs onto her duvet, outside the office/studio door, she spends the morning there, then she comes down at lunchtime, on the various settee’s, as you can see in the picture below.

‘Paddy’ slept all night on the marble floor and then came on the bed this morning for his ‘ cuddles’ – before we all had a further lie in, after freshening up we took him out for his first walk of the day, down the shady side of the street, there was a very refreshing breeze blowing, making it very bearable, as it’s still very hot & sunny, when we returned we had our usual light breakfast of ‘ Weetabix’ toast & tea, before putting the shopping list together, ‘Paddy’ retired into his ‘ day-bed’ as you can see below.

As I said above, this morning we have yet another glorious day here in sunny Manilva, the sun was out early and the sky has cleared and is bright blue, as there is a very pleasing breeze blowing down from the mountains behind the village, by lunchtime it will still be 33 degs+ - tomorrow and over the weekend we are in for more of the same, next week is going to be a ‘ hot-one’ with very sunny weather, getting hotter each day, in the mid 30s+ - overnight hovering on the 20 degs mark! Watch this space.

Yesterday over in Estepona the local ‘Council’ & the very progressive Mayor, re-opened the ‘Market’ in the old part of the Town, below the Church, it was in the old days very poor, with just a few stalls and no selection, but now as you can see in the pictures below, it’s very smart & up to date, not as a ‘Wholesale/Retail Fruit, Vegetable, Meat & Fish Market’ but as a ‘ Gourmet’ destination spot!

This evening we are going out for our supper, we have given the ‘ Head Chef & the Staff’ the day off, it’s going to be a regular day-off during the very hot weather, the very small kitchen, despite the large extraction hood gets rather hot, to say the least, as ‘ Bar Castillo ‘ is closed for their holidays, we are going to ‘ Bar Rojas ‘ for a light ‘ Tapas’ supper, hopefully they will show the ‘England v Belgium’ game at the World Cup Football’ over in Russia, on their new outside, large-screen TV!

On Friday we are having our usual ‘ Fish Night’ with ‘Tail-End of Salmon’ on the menu, then on Saturday it will be our usual ‘Steak Night’ – Sunday is still TBC, possibly another ‘Roast Chicken ‘ from the local ‘ Rotisserie’ in Calle Mar, watch this space.

Meanwhile over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, this weekend the folks, Sandra & Bill will be celebrating “ Canada Day “ – the anniversary of July 1st 1867 when the Constitution was enacted, linking the three separate colonies together!

See below a picture of Jeff & Annette , outside Sandra’s house, on their visit/stop-over, a couple of weeks ago, on their way from Brisbane to Edmonton to see their daughter Kate, it’s a small World!
