A NOW DAMP SUNNY MANILVA ON WEDNESDAY.
WEDNESDAY 28th/ FEBRUARY 2018.
Just a little lie in this morning, before
freshening up and having our regular light breakfast of fresh fruit, toast
& tea, in ‘ Doggy World Heaven’ ‘ Scooby’ is back with us at lunchtime, he’s
with us until Sunday, ‘ Reina’ is back tomorrow for her normal day and then on
Friday ‘ Charlie’ arrives for his short-break weekend, ‘Chispa’ will no doubt
be in & out all the time before we take her on Monday morning to be groomed!
See below ‘ Scooby’ as he dried-off after
arriving!
This morning it’s very mild, the sky is
clearing slowly and there is no breeze, yesterday stayed dry and in the
afternoon we even had some sunshine, not forecast, so we will have to wait and
see if the damp stuff arrives later, at the moment it’s spitting, the rest of
the week and over the weekend is looking wet & windy, next week is also not
looking very good, with more of the same to come, overall the temperatures are
hovering on the 16/17 degs+ overnight 12/13 degs, watch this space.
See below Colwyn Bay as the snow arrived, overnight, and the work on dismantling the roof of the old Pier started.
Today is ‘ The Day of Andalucia – Dia de Andalucia ‘ marking the anniversary of the referendum held on February 28TH 1980. Usually all the celebrations take place on a stage in front of the Town Hall when all the Civic Dignitaries sing the ‘Andalucia’ Anthem, The Manilva Brass Band parades, they rise the Flag, then it’s followed by singing and dancing, sadly not this year as ‘ Calle Mar’ is being remodelled!
It has all been moved down to the ‘ Pabellon- the village’s multi-purpose centre, down by the sports complex, which has no atmosphere, the sound is terrible, as its built with bare breeze block walls, and at this time of the year it’s cold, we won’t be going down, I will try and post some pictures later! Watch this space.
See below;
At the same time it’s “ Global Scouse Day “ when all ‘ Scousers’ all over the World celebrate the great city of Liverpool and of course eat ‘ Scouse’- wherever they are!

I have just made, with the help of the ‘
Second Chef’ a large pan of the traditional stew to my mother’s classic recipe, with a few extras! I tossed
the dice Beef, the local ‘Butchers’ best, in seasoned flour and then browned it
off, I then made the stew with diced Onions & a little Garlic, Carrots,
Turnips, Leeks & Celery and cubed Potatoes, a dash of ‘ Lea & Perrins’
and ‘Tabasco’ with a tea-spoon of Curry powder! Then the rich Beef &
Vegetables stock is added before finally the browned-off Beef, the seasoning is
adjusted and it’s left to cook-out under the eagle eye of the ‘ Second Chef’ –
the aromas are wafting up to the office/studio as I’m typing/ posting the Blog!
We will re-heat it this evening and have it
with Diamond-Cut Green Beans & Baby Beetroot and some crusty Bread, then
tomorrow we will have it again as it goes even better left overnight!
This week in the afternoons we have been
watching ‘ James Martin’s American Adventure’ – as he arrived in New Orleans in
a ‘ Fire-Red Mustang ‘! – a city that we know very well, we had friends who lived
there, Mike was a local ‘Louisiana Cowboy’ and his wife Beverly was a local
girl from Colwyn Bay!, we spent five memorable days with them as we crossed America
from Miami to Los Angeles, back in the early 80s! On the menu have been ‘ Creole
Shrimps, Cajun Red Fish, Gumbo, Jambalya etc’ - he is also going to visit the
home of ‘Tabasco’- ‘ Avery Island’
Last night after supper we caught up with
the third episode of “ Collateral ‘ – it’s the final episode next week, another
murder, ‘MI5’ up to no good, the trafficking ring is seen for the first time,
led a by a creepy ex-Officer in the Army, a double-agent was exposed, more
details of the killers past came out, the wife of the MP is a gambling addict
as well as liking dope, the Lesbian clergywoman is having problems with the Gay
Bishop and at the end the lady killer is about to shoot her superior office,
who raped her! Watch this space!!

A GREY, COLD & OVERCAST AND WET SUNNY MANILVA ON TUESDAY.
I was up early this morning to see ‘ Reina’
back with us for the day, she shot upstairs and we then all had a nice lie in,
she then goes in her duvet, she’s back on Thursday morning, ‘ Scooby’ is
arriving back with us tomorrow for a five day break, then on Friday ‘ Charlie’
is now with us, also, for a weekend break until Monday, no doubt ‘ Chispa’ will
be in & out in between the showers!
After a quick breakfast of fresh fruit,
toast & tea we sorted out this evenings ‘ Gourmet Banquet ‘ as Lee and his
father–in-law Antonio are joining us, as Daniela is snow-bound in London on
business and Sharon, Antonio’s wife is over in the USA, in the sunshine! -
looking after her sister, after an operation.
To start we are offering a selection of light ‘ Tapas’ – sliced local ‘Chorizo, Iberica Ham, Manchego Cheese & Boquerones en Vinagre ‘
To start we are offering a selection of light ‘ Tapas’ – sliced local ‘Chorizo, Iberica Ham, Manchego Cheese & Boquerones en Vinagre ‘
For the
main course it’s ‘ Grilled Medallions of Pork Fillet ‘ garnished with seared Asparagus
Spear & Button Mushrooms, accompanied with a sauceboat of a creamy ‘Green
Peppercorn Salsa’ with Broccoli & Cauliflower Florets in a Cheese sauce,
Glazed Baby Carrot Batons & Baby Whole Green Beans and a large dish of my ‘
Breton’ style Potatoes, boiled/diced new potatoes tossed in foaming butter with
diced, Onions & Shallots and Red, Green & Yellow Peppers!
The dessert is ‘ Crepes’ served with local
Strawberries and Vanilla Ice Cream. A selection of Beers, Soft drinks, fine
White & Red Wines will be offered along with a Liquors!
As forecast today is grey & overcast,
with a slight breeze, it’s cold & damp, with showers threatened later, the
rest of the week is the same and over the weekend and into next week we are in
for more of the ‘ wet stuff’ – the only bit of good news is that the overall
temperatures are hovering on the 16/17degs mark! It’s the tail-end of the Siberian ‘ Beast from
the East ‘ that is hitting all of Europe and the UK, I’m getting the wet-proofs
out as we are in for some wet walks with the dogs, especially ‘ Charlie’ –
after all he is a ‘ Water Dog ‘ !!
Last night after supper we caught the next
episode of “ Marcella’ with Anna Friel in the title role as a Detective in
Metropolitan Murder Squad hunting an
occultist, paedophilic child killer, round two gave us more corpses ( three
human, one mouse!) The plot thickens, with a historical disappearance of a
female fan, of one of the suspects, a possible victim who is still alive,
paralysed in a home and at the end of one of her colleagues in the Murder Squad
is spying on Anna Friel via her webcam?!

A WARM & SUNNY MANILVA, AT THE MOMENT, AT THE START OF THE WEEK.
We had a surprise lie in this morning as
little princess ‘ Reina’ ended up staying the night, she’s with us for the day
and then back tomorrow & Thursday, she slept all night in her duvet, ‘
Chispa’ has already called in, first thing this morning, to see her friend and
us! ‘Scooby’ returns on Wednesday for a short break for five days.
After freshening up we had our breakfast,
to start the week in the right direction “ Toasted ‘Crispy’ Smoked Bacon
Butties “ – smothered in ‘ HP ‘Brown sauce – as usual, open on Brown for
Brenda, with mugs of strong, sweet tea.
Brenda then popped along to the Chemists in
‘Calle Mar’ for our prescription tablets and when she returned I went along to
the local Bank to pay the Water Bill and then carried on down to the Butchers
to stock up!
While I was out I bumped into a local/friend
and the conversation turned to the “ EuroMillions “ lottery winners, last Friday,
a local consortium of 80 people from Manilva, Sabinillas, El Castillio & La
Linea, reportable, won 88 MILLION EUROS !! We already know a couple of them, a
local Councillor and local Bar Owner, who’s ‘Bar’ was closed this morning as I
passed!
This morning it was forecast to be cold
& wet, but at the moment it’s clear & sunny, by lunchtime it’s due to
reach 16 degs+ - the rest of the week and over the weekend into next week we
are in for rain and wind, with grey and overcast skies, the only bonus is that
it’s going to be hovering on the 16/17 degs mark, overnight up to 12/14 degs,
meaning that the rain will be warm! Watch this space.
For our supper this evening we are having
the rest of the ‘Lancashire Hotpot’ which I will top later with some more ‘Spanish
Lamb Steaks & Cutlets’ – then lay a fresh ‘lid’ of sliced Potatoes, ready
to go back in the oven this evening.
Tomorrow evening we have Lee and his
father-in-law, Antonio, joining us for supper, ‘Tapas’ to start, ‘ Medallions
of Pork Fillet ‘ for the main course and then ‘ Crepes’ to finish!
On Wednesday it’s “ Global Scouse Day “ so
youv’e guessed, we are having my Mother’s recipe, with a couple of additions, of
proper ‘ Lobscouse – Scouse ‘ – a stew commonly eaten by sailors from Northern
Europe, ie; ‘Lapskaus’ from Norway, when visiting the Port of Liverpool, back
in time!
Yesterday afternoon we watched the second
half of the ‘ Carabao Cup’ final at Wembley, as Manchester City overpowered and
swept aside and then thrashed Arsenal 0-3 in convincing fashion!
After supper we then made contact on the ‘
Skype’ video with Sandra & Bill, over in Everett, Ontario, Canada, for a
nice, long catch up with all their news, we then caught the first episode of
the two-part “ Strike; Career of Evil “ as the one-legged ‘Soho Detective’ – ‘
Cameroran Strike’ played by Tom Burke returned, with his assistant Robin,
played by the very watchable Holliday Grainger, as a dismembered leg is sent in
the post to her, at the office, watch this space.
Just a little reminder to all our family & friends all over the World, as you are out & about later this year, to pop a 'Postcard' to us here in sunny Manilva! We will sent you one back. Thanks!!
