MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY.

MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY – PART THREE.

As the day went on we popped back to the house for sustenance as it is also only a few yards above back to all the action; all the local Bars do a roaring trade as the day goes into the evening party. The first band on was made up of members of the Town Brass Band led by Fernando on Base Guitar and they play “Pasodoble ” music which is a great sound to get all the crowd singing along and the local ladies dancing, it creates a tremendous atmosphere as the evening draws in.

The second band on was a real surprise as they played all their numbers in English and I discovered later that the main lady singer was from Blackburn ! They have a terrific sound and perform all the great oldies, Ben E King and the Drifters, The Beatles, The Police and including a version of “ Perfect ” by Eddy Ryder ?! which was unbelievable. Near the end they did a Status Quo number which really got me going; of course all the locals just sit and watch as they don’t know the words and can’t dance to the songs so Brenda and I were in our element as we sang our hearts out to every tune, at one stage we started to jive to a rock and roll number and we ended up in front of the stage on our own as we are the only English people in the village ! At the end of the number we got a tremendous cheer and clap from all the locals and brought the house down !! When the Quo number came on I did my head banging/air guitar impersonation as well as some Dirty Dancing in front of the old ladies of the village – they loved it – so I am told ! As normal the pictures only give you a small view of the night’s entertainment,Manilva TV records everything but I don’t know if the got my performance! I’ve also been asked by the Chief of Police and some councilors for some copy pictures to put up on their walls !! Watch this space.

PS; I've been told that it was a standing ovation at the end of our jive !

MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY.

MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY.

MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY – PART TWO.

After the formal part of the day the second part is for the children of the local schools to show off their dancing skills; it started with the Municipal Band on the stage playing all the most popular Brass Band tunes to get the crowd going and then the Ladies Choir sings the traditional local songs which everybody knows and of course joins in with. Then the children have their big moment to show off; the crowd by now is buzzing and all the parents are shouting and clapping to encourage their children as they perform on the stage. The pictures below show this happening but you of course can’t hear the noise !

MANILVA ON ANDALUCIA DAY – PART ONE.

First of all to get things right Andalucia Day is actually on Monday 28th February 2011 when it is a bank holiday but all the celebrations and party are taking place today!

Mano and Anna called in first thing and we joined then up at Bar Rojas and collected our free Andalucian Breakfast from the stall; it is the local Pan Morena with Olive Oil and Sugar and a slice of Cinnamon Cake together with a coffee; the weather today was a little cooler then yesterday 22degs and with a slight breeze so it was very pleasant in which turned out to be a long day. As the villager’s come up to the Town Hall the atmosphere builds up; the Mayor and Councillor’s glad handed everybody and I thanked the four Councillor’s who arranged for the new flags; The Chief of Police,Paco Luque was in his finest dress uniform along with his Deputy Manolo and the local duty policeman. The Municipal Band led by Fernando marched in and the Municipal Choir was up on the second stage outside the Town Hall; after the introductions the Mayor Antonia Munoz proposed the toast to Andalucia and the anthem was sung as the flag was raised with a lot of clapping and cheering at the end! All along Calle Mar are stalls for the children and of course a Bouncy Castle; everybody are in their finest and the atmosphere is very friendly as the day goes on. The pictures below will give you a little idea of the day as it happened.

ESTEPONA/MANILVA START TO THE WEEKEND.

SATURDAY 26TH FEBRUARY 2011.

Well we have just had one “ Helluva ” Saturday ! We had arranged to go and see Vidal and Gissy over in Estepona in their new apartment; it is right by the Bay of Estepona on the seafront looking across to Estepona,Estepona Fishing Harbour,Sabinillas and Duquesa Marina with Manilva up on the hillside ! Across to Africa and Gibraltar on a clear day are on the horizon in the sea mist – honest ! See the pictures below; We stopped off in Estepona on the way as we needed some Casis,which we use in Cava all the time; next door to the wine shop there is a very good “ Halal ” butchers with a large selection of meats all on offer, for example two Chickens for 5 euros ! and Legs of Lamb which were a very good price also.

At the same time as catching up with all their news Gissy cut my hair, she took an inch off but it did not hurt ! Then Brenda had the full works,cut,colour and style as we sat on their very large balcony in the very warm sunshine,27degs and higher. As we came to set off home and went to the car,Lilli’s which we have had the use of this week, the steering lock would not diss-engage,even with Vidal’s help and knowledge we had no luck and so we had to abandon the car outside the Apartment block and get a Taxi home as Vidal was on his way to an gig over in Fuengirola.

We had invited Brian around for supper as he has now finished work and moved into the Aparthotel until they set off to Finland; before we left for Estepona I had called back in to our butchers in the village for another slice of steak, it turned out that he was watching the football and then the rugby around at Andy’s so we asked Andy to join us as well ! Everton won and England played well and beat the French ! So when they arrived they were in fine form, we had the Steaks pan fried rare in Garlic butter with Grilled Tomato, Sauté Onions and Button Mushrooms and of course proper chips ! I also as a surprise fried eggs and topped the steaks with them ! We all cleared our plates and a satisfied hum went around the room ! So we ended with another fine day down here in sunny Manilva.

Thought for the Day;

Never go to bed mad. Stay up and fight.

MANILVA THIS WEEK.

TUESDAY/FRIDAY 22ND/25TH FEBRUARY 2011.

On Tuesday morning we went down to Duquesa Marina and went for a walk along the front towards Sabinillas; we took Cheta out with us, it was her first time in the car and on the beach and she got very excited as we strolled along the parade which the local council has been working on, all the local councils along the coast back to Marbella are extending the sea front promenades and joining them up. We had been woken up in the morning when they started painting and repairing the Town Hall, at long last but sadly not in time for the weekend celebrations and party for Andalucia Day ! We took the pictures of the Cherry Picker at the same time as the plant pictures outside our house. The weather is getting better everyday and the temperatures are going up to 25degs over the weekend. In the evening we had the English Pork Chops for dinner, I baked them in the over with Apple slices in a Lemon Butter sauce and made Lyonnaise Potatoes along with Brenda’s special Cabbage.

Wednesday was another glorious day so we went for our walk on the front in Sabinillas and at the same time called in to the agents to get things going on the Smart Car update and change to Spanish plates; we are now waiting for the quotes from the garage at the same time and will look at things next week after the bank holiday celebrations at the weekend. In the afternoons Brenda is now out on the roof terrace taking in the warm sunshine before we have our evening cocktails and nibbles! For supper we had thin slices of Lambs Liver, cooked pink with Sauté Onions, Smoked Bacon and Chipolata Sausage all from the English butches, for a change, together with Brenda’s Mashed Potatoes and more Cabbage! Later we watched a film on the TV and some sport.

In the morning on Thursday I made a Chicken and Mushroom Pie ( See Pictures below ) A La “ Sexton ” which is my own recipe and contains Diced Carrots,Onions,Celery,Spring Onions and Red Peppers along with a White wine cream sauce and the secret ingredients ! As I finished the pie mix Mano and Anna called in, they were originally coming around for dinner but their plans had changed and so had to take a rain check, also the Halal Lamb for Sunday is going to be on another weekend as Mano has some on going business to attend too; watch this space ! In the evening I watched the football on the PC, first it was the Liverpool match, they won and then to follow they showed the Manchester City game which City won and scored three goals! The pie was delicious, even if I do say so my self ! We have put the rest away in the deep freeze for another day – honest !!

Today as usual on a Friday we went down to Sabinillas to do the shopping, call in the bank, collect the English local papers and progress the Smart Car change as the agents have come in with a very good quote; in the supermarket I picked up Hake again as we enjoyed it so much last week, we are having it fried in Spanish Batter (Flour) with square Chips and Mushy Peas. At lunchtime we went for our walk around the village with Cheta,they have started to build the stages for the weekend as you can see in the picture below; we ended up down by the Mirador at the entrance to Manilva next to Bodega Augustin ( The Office ) Mano and Anna had some Tapas there the other day and said that they were fab! We checked their display out and it was very good,fresh and different as well as cheap so we will give it a try soon. It is all happening this weekend with the big celebrations taking place all day on Sunday; the band and Choir are out as well as other local music,singing and dancing as we celebrate Andalucia Day- watch out for the report and pictures.

Thought for the Day;

Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

THE WEEKEND IN SUNNY MANILVA.

SUNDAY/MONDAY 20TH/21ST FEBRUARY 2011.

We had a little lie in on Sunday morning and then quickly got ready the Sunday Lunch, Roast Chicken with all the trimmings; Anna called in the morning as Mano was in bed after a busy night at the Aparthotel, after she had gone we smartened our self’s up and went up to Bar Rojas with Cheta for our lunchtime drink sat outside in the warm sunshine. We then went out for a drive along the coast to Sotogrande Marina, it only takes ten minutes and is a spectacular drive along the coast road; the Marina is the best and most exclusive on the coast and it looked at it’s best as you can see in the pictures below. In the evening Mano and Anna came around for our Sunday Roast dinner as you can see, click on the picture to enlarge and you can see the food and Brenda’s dear old Mom’s Antique Sauce Boat ! Next weekend is a Bank Holiday in Spain for Andalucia Day next Monday so we are planning to have a " Halal " Roast Leg of Lamb,it is also rather special as the King is coming down to review the troops in Malaga !

This morning first thing Brenda had the washing machine going at full pelt as it is an ideal Monday washing and drying day, in-between washes we went out in the car down to Sabinillas and took Cheta for a walk along the beach; she loved it and especially being in the car! We called into the English butchers and picked up two English Style Large Pork Chops for dinner on Tuesday, next week they are moving to new premises in Duquesa Marina which look very grand. Tonight it is Cold Chicken for supper and we are planning to have later in the week Chicken and Mushroom Pie a la " Sexton " Mano amd Anna ( Madam President ) in her dreams have just called in to say hello and catch up with all the news,Mano hopefully might have some extremely good news later in the week – watch this space !

Thought for the Day;

You’ve achieved success in your field when you don’t know what you are doing is work or play.
